Evening Facial Massage
(6 Minute Video)
It’s recommended to view the video on full screen (horizontal) and then follow along at home.
Begin your evening massage with clean skin, and apply a generous spritz of facial mist or toner. Then warm some oil between your hands and pat or massage all over your face and neck. You can also use a cleansing oil for this massage and wash it off afterwards.
Start by giving some love to the back of your neck and shoulders. The neck is the super highway for circulation to the face and lymphatic drainage coming down from the face - and the evening is a great time to do some massage that really focuses on releasing tension and winding down.
Gently stretch your head to the side and then repeat on the other side. Then turn your head to the right so your nose is in line with your shoulder. Bring back to the centre and let your head fall forwards, then look upwards - elongating your neck - and finally turn your head all the way to the left. And you can repeat this neck exercise 3-9 times daily.
Moving on to the face, use two fingers above the jaw and two fingers below to glide along the jawbone and drain down the neck. Then using claw hands, contour the jawline with alternating flowing hand motions - and repeat on the other side.
Then using the edge of your hands, glide out from the centre of your face towards the ear, clearing cellular debris and fluids, and lifting the tissue. Then anchor your thumb under the jaw and using firm pressure, move your index finger from the cheekbone down to the jaw, to release tension in this muscle. You can then knead with your knuckles and massage out with your fingers. The jaw muscle is very strong and often very tight.
Next, use your index finger and thumb to pinch all around the lips, which relieves tension around the mouth and plumps the lips. Start outside the outer corner of the mouth and work along - really stretching out the tissue around the mouth. And then move up and down from the chin to the nose, breaking up the pattern in the tissue here. Massage the sides of the nose and use your finger tips to gentle stretch out the tissue, to release sinus pressure and soften the nasolabial folds.
Then with firm pressure, use both hands to glide up the face - lifting and toning the muscles. This helps with jowls around the mouth area and we start to bring Qi, blood and movement to the face. Then use both hands on either side of the face to swipe upwards, pausing at the cheekbone and applying pressure, and lifting upwards to really lift the tissue up here.
Then use your claw hands once again to glide out along the cheekbones to release tension and sculpt this area. And then drain under the eyes using gentle pressure and alternating hands in a flowing motion. Then creating gentle circles around the eyes to soothe and release, and move up onto the forehead, massaging in circles from the centre out to the temples.
You can then use your knuckles to massage up the procerus muscle to release tension here. And then use both hands to massage the whole forehead with your knuckles to release tension and bring circulation to the area. And then drain down. Then continue using your fingers to massage up from your brows to the hairline, softening lines and further stimulating the tissue.
We go back into our circles. We want to have a continuous flow that also soothes our nervous system. We can use two fingers on either side of the ear to pump back and down to stimulate that lymphatic flow from the face down to the neck. And then continue to drain down to the clavicle.
Then massage your cheeks using firm and fast upwards motions to lift the tissue and increase blood flow. Work both sides of the face and then move up to the forehead. Then gently tap all over your face to boost circulation and nutrient supply to the skin. This also has a calming effect on the nervous system and benefits the bones with micro vibrations.
Gently massage the ears. There are many points here that are beneficial for overall health - and then drain down the neck and finish with gentle, soothing strokes.
